Your Future: How We Help Get You There

Our pediatric residency program stresses the role of the pediatrician as a lifelong learner and educator of patients, families, and other health care providers, as well as an advocate for issues affecting infants, children, and teens. All that begins with a focus on our residents’ mental and physical wellness: You won’t find 24-hour shifts here, and you attend lunch lectures pager-free. Food stipends and other perks round out an ideal environment for your residency.

Individualized Attention, Specialized Opportunities

With fewer residents in each class, our attendings can offer hands-on support and establish a positive working relationship with residents. And because we’re 100% focused on kids and provide multiple subspecialty rotations, you’ll quickly get exposure to the multiple pediatric care pathologies that are available.

Varied and Vital Clinic Experiences

Patient needs are wide ranging. We provide you with community-based, continuity clinic experiences so you can learn what it’s really like to practice general pediatrics in urban, suburban, and rural communities. This experience includes working with an immigrant population and children in foster care.

Follow Your Interests

Akron Children’s will expose you to a variety of pediatric subspecialties – and we encourage you to pursue research projects with subspecialists in your area of interest.

The Akron Children’s pediatric residency program is international medical graduate (IMG)-friendly, offering a supportive environment that values diversity and international perspectives. The program welcomes international medical graduates, providing comprehensive training, mentorship, and resources to help pediatric residents of all backgrounds excel in the U.S. health care system. With a commitment to fostering a culturally inclusive learning experience, Akron Children’s ensures that IMGs receive the guidance and opportunities needed to succeed in pediatric medicine.

Pediatric Residency Program Accreditations

Our pediatric residency program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and is affiliated with Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio.
