Please contact Medical Education to request an Affiliation Agreement.

You must submit the following documents 90 days before the start of your rotation:

    • Completed application packet
    • Copy of medical school diploma
    • Verification of criminal background/BCI/FBI fingerprinting completed at home hospital
    • Verification of immunizations (home institution standard requirement)
    • Copy of ECFMG certificate, if applicable
    • Copy of training certificate/permanent licensure for the State of Ohio
    • Curriculum vitae

Pediatric In-patient Rotation Policy for Rotating Residents (doesn’t include PICU & ED)

    • The Department of Medical Education at Akron Children’s Hospital’s philosophy is to treat residents from other institutions, rotating on our Pediatric in-patient teams the same we treat our pediatric residents.  The same privileges and responsibilities apply equally to both groups.
    • The general pediatric residents and all rotating residents when doing an in-patient Pediatric rotation at Akron Children’s Hospital must abide by the following:
      • No vacation/CME/USMLE or COMLEX tests to be taken during the rotation.
      • No personal days off
      • Manage similar number of patients.
      • May be required to work night shifts as scheduled including the possibility of one week of nights (Sunday-Friday)
      • Required to attend didactic Pediatric Conferences
    • Rotating residents will NOT be scheduled on the in-patient, non-intensive care teams in July. December, and June (blocks 1, 7, 13).
    • If a rotating resident is absent 2 or more days from a scheduled in-patient pediatric rotation, the Director of the Pediatric Residency program/Associate Program Director will contact the resident’s Program Director to discuss a completion plan for the resident.
    • The Family Practice In-Training examination and ALSO program will be considered an excused absence from scheduled rotations.   Advance notice is required.
    • SUMMA Family Practice Residents will be excused to attend the CORE program (required osteopathic training).
    • To assist with family centered rounds and patient coverage, rotating residents will only be excused to attend continuity clinic on Wednesdays.  We will schedule our Pediatric residents accordingly to assure safe effective patient care.   The general pediatric residents are only permitted to go to clinic one afternoon a week during their in-patient rotations.
      • Each visiting program will define whether their residents will be gone a full day or a half day on Wednesday prior to the start of the rotation.
      • The pediatric chief residents will note each program’s Wednesday schedule on the monthly call schedule, however rotating residents are still responsible for notifying their senior resident when they will be gone for clinic.
      • If a rotating resident does not have scheduled duties at their program on a particular Wednesday, they are expected to present for work at ACH.
    • Rotating residents are required to comply with Human Resources policies at Akron Children’s Hospital.
    • Rotating resident must submit any off-call requests for the rotation, to the Pediatric Chief Residents, three months prior to the rotation’s start date.  Off-call requests are subject to the approval of the Pediatric Chief Residents
